BIG CONGRATULATIONS as over 200 youths/Kids were trained and graduated from the "CATCH THEM YOUNG "- BootCamp (July 31-Aug 31) held in the University of Port Harcourt, organised by the Centre for Information and Telecommunication Engineering(CITE)-Uniport in partnership with National Information Technology Development Agency ( NITDA). Graduands within ages 8-16 years old were intensively trained to acquire digital skills in AI, Python prog, Data Science, IoT, Embedded Systems Design, Mobile App Dev, 3D Printing, Coding and Robotics. The Chairman of the remarkable event Prof Owunari A. Georgewill ( the digital Vice Chancellor of UNIPORT) and the esteemed dignitaries from the industries, academia and government sectors that were present at the event were very thrilled as young graduands displayed some mind-blowing digital projects designed and developed within the 5 weeks Booth Camp , just to mention: Self-driving obstacle avoidance Robot, Smoke Detection system, Intruder Detection Robot, Programming and Assembly of Drones, Bluetooth & GSM-Controlled Robotic Car, GSM-based Home Automation, Voice Controlled IoT Lighting Systems, Spider Robots, SMS-Controlled DoT Matrix Display Board. The Director of the Centre, Prof Bourdillon Odianonsen Omijeh who is the iconic driver of this Catch Them Young Digital Initiative pin-pointed 3 lessons to note during his inspiring presentation: 1. There is hope for this nation because Nigeria got young talents. Great potentials in our youths to harness. 2. That no investment in youth development is too much because the dividend is unquantifiable. 3. That these little kids/youths today are the Billgates, Thomas Edison, digital innovators, great leaders for tomorrow. Conclusively, Prof Omijeh stated that the fourth industrial revolution has overwhelming economic opportunities; and that equipping these youths on relevant emerging digital skill- sets is the sure way to secure the future. At the graduation ceremony which took place 4th September, 2023, dual certificates were given to all graduands; and special awards were given to winners in various categories.
